How to install Google Analytics on WordPress

Introduction

Google Analytics is an analytics tool that helps you monitor your website traffic for free and very easily. With Google Analytics you can monitor how your users interact with your website, who your users are, their age group, gender, interests, location, and a lot more. This data really helps you grow your website a lot.

In this tutorial, we are going to learn how we can set up Google Analytics in our WordPress website with the help of plugins and even without using any plugin at all.

Google Analytics tool is free for Individuals and small companies and most of its features are accessible freely. You only need a Google Account and a WordPress website to start using Analytics on your website.

Installation using Google Plugin

Step 1: First go to your WordPress website plugins section and click in Add New and search for Google Analytics you will see a plugin Site Kit by Google Install that plugin and click on activate.

Step 2: Now, you will see the Site Kit prompt, click on start setup you will be redirected to Google login to complete the Site Kit setup.  Just click on proceed to complete the setup. While setting app google may ask for some permissions, allow them.

Step 3: Now from the Site Kit dashboard click on the Analytics option, you will be redirected to analytics set up this time, allow all the permissions.

Step 4: Now you’ll need to choose the account and the property for your analytics choose any, and if it requires some extra permissions, allow them.

Now your Analytics setup is complete, after some time when analytics collect enough data you can monitor your traffic from the dashboard.

There are also many third-party plugins are available for adding Google Analytics to your website some of the most popular ones are the MonsterInsights-Google Analytics plugin, GA Google Analytics, ExactMetrics, and so on.

Installation without any plugin

So installation of Google Analytics with plugins is super easy but what if you don’t want to use any plugin? Well, we got you covered. Now we are going to learn how we can use Google Analytics in our website without using any plugin.

Step 1: Go to the Google Analytics website and sign in with your Google account.

Step 2: Now click on Start Measuring and fill the basic form where they ask you to fill in Account Name, Property Name, Reporting time, Currency, and basic Business Information your site category, business size, and how you wanna use analytics. Most of the basic stuff which you can fill easily, now click on create.

Step 3: Now you will see the data stream option if you are unable to see it go to Admin>you property>data stream from there choose a platform in our case web. Add your website URL in the URL section.

Step 4: Now on your analytics page click on admin and then click on Tracking Info.

Step 5: Now you will see the tracking code, copy everything from there and get back to your WordPress site.

Step 6: On your WordPress website go to Appearance>Theme Editor you may see an alert about making an edit in theme click on I understand.

Step 7: Now go to header.php file and in heading tag paste your tracking code of Google Analytics.

Now your manual analytics setup is complete, make sure you didn’t skip any part and you have pasted the code in right place between the head tag the else analytics may not work. Now on your google analytics page, you can track your visitors.
