How To Add And Upload PDF Files In WordPress Site

What is PDF?

Uploading and adding a PDF file to your posts and pages

WordPress makes it very easy to upload a PDF file and add it to your posts and pages. Below are steps to upload and add a PDF file using the WordPress classic editor.

  1. Create or edit a page or post where you want to add the PDF file.
  2. Above the WordPress editor you will see an Add Media button. Click on it.
  3. A popup will appear with the title Add Media. Make sure you are on the Upload files tab in it.
  4. Click on the Select Files button to browse and select the PDF file you want to upload.
  5. Once the file is uploaded you will see the details of the file on the right hand side under the ATTACHMENT DETAILS section.
  6. You can change the title and add a caption or description to the file.
  7. To add the file to the page or post, under the ATTACHMENT DISPLAY SETTINGS, select the Media File option in the Link To drop down and select the size of the PDF file to display.
  8. Once done click on the Insert into post button. A link to download the PDF file will appear in your page or post. You can now save or publish to successfully add the PDF file to the page or post.

 

If you are using the Gutenberg block editor then the steps are a bit different. Below are steps to upload and add a PDF file using the Gutenberg block editor.

  1. Create or edit a page or post where you want to add the PDF file.
  2. Click on the + sign at the top for adding a new block.
  3. Under the Media section select the File block.
  4. Click on the Upload button. Browse and select the PDF file you want to upload.
  5. Once uploaded you can add the title for the file and a Download button will be visible next to it. You can disable or change other settings by clicking on the Show Block Settings option which is under the three vertical dots in the toolbar.
  6. Save or publish the page or post to successfully add the PDF file.
